In the current NBA playoffs, the Philadelphia 76ers are playing the Atlanta Hawks. Tierra Whack, probably hoping to lend some well-deserved support, has teamed up with the team to produce the song “76.” While this track does flip basketball references, it also plays down expectations of an eventual championship appearance from the 76ers.
Whack and the 76ers are seen playing basketball in separate rooms as footage of their game plays on TV like a soundtrack. A drumline and dancers are also featured in the clip.
Tierra Whack came out with her critically acclaimed debut LP Whack World a few years ago, a concept album comprised of 15 one-minute songs accompanied by videos. Her fans have been delighted with loose singles, including The Only Child, Clones, Gloria, Wasteland, Unemployed, Dora, Peppers and Onions, Feel Good, and most recently – “Link,” which hopefully launches an album campaign. Besides her own releases, Whack has contributed to the music of her peers, including tracks by Lil Yachty, Alicia Keys, Flying Lotus, and Beyoncé, the latter of which appeared on The Lion King: The Gift.
