DC is experiencing the season of endless vibes right now. With some new summer tunes, Goldlink shows up just in time for the summer. Starting off his musical career was his debut mixtape, The God Complex (released in 2014). Due to this, his hit single “Crew” (featuring Brent Faiyaz and Shy Glizzy) was able to take over the entire year of 2016 with its unforgettable and infectious sound. It is not uncommon for people to think of DMV artists including Wale, Oddisee, etc., first. With the release of HARAM, Goldlink establishes yet another leg of his legacy.
On June 10th, Goldlink announced the album’s release after going to war on Twitter the day prior with Harlem rapper Sheck Wes. “FUKK U SHECK WES. IMA DRINK SOME CACTI AND SPIT ON YOUR WHITE TEE YOU DIRTY BUTT NIGGA.” he said. He then continued “HAHAHAHHAHHAHAHA HE SO UGLY” followed up with “AND SHECK IT AINT MY FAULT DAT YA MEN JUMPED OUT, GOT SPANKED THEN YA MANS GOT SHOT.” There’s no clear underlying reason for the public dispute between Goldlink and the two artists, but some could argue it’s nothing more than a marketing ploy by Goldlink to increase streams and sales.
Goldlink released a brand new single called “White Walls” as an extra teaser for the project. According to the DMV artist, the bass-heavy track is “destructive,” and added that it is “wrong.” There’s something crazy and catchy about it. It should be played loudly!”
The majority of the album’s tracks included features (around 12 songs) including NLE Choppa, Santigold, Flo Milli, Rich The Kidand more! HARAM is a revolutionary story about the struggle to overcome evil.
