Rocky Wallace was singing before she could speak, so it is important to understand the essence of her music. Music was one of her first childhood memories, and she felt a deep yearning to sing.
Her only option would be to sing. A local Detroit music school offered Rocky voice lessons after her mom convinced them they would benefit her. That changed everything.
Besides Stevie Nicks and Amy Winehouse, Rocky’s musical influences include Susan Tedeschi, Carrie Underwood, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana and Aretha Franklin.
Rocky loves their work, but she tries to sound unique. It has always stuck with her that one of the best compliments someone ever received was when a fan said, “You sound like you.” That is something that always inspired her to develop her own sound. Her goal is to sound like myself, not anyone else.
You know Rocky is telling the truth if you listen to her.
