The album’s performance has been nothing short of stellar. According to Billboard, Cowboy Carter sold a whopping 407,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. alone during its first week. Streaming provided a significant boost, with 232,000 units coming from streams. Traditional album sales accounted for another 168,000 units, while track equivalent albums made up the remaining 7,000 units.
Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter has not just topped the charts; it has shattered records and accumulated numerous accolades. The first week numbers alone have put the album in the spotlight. It was the biggest week for any album in 2024 and the largest since Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) earned 1.653 million units last year.
“The debut also marks Beyoncé’s biggest week since she dropped Lemonade and debuted at No. 1 with 653,000 units in 2016. Beyoncé also had her biggest streaming week ever with Cowboy Carter.” – Billboard
The success of Cowboy Carter has further cemented Beyoncé’s status as one of the greatest musicians of all time. The album is her eighth No. 1, pushing her ahead of Janet Jackson to have the fourth-most No.1’s among women artists. She now trails only Madonna (nine No.1’s), Barbra Streisand (eleven No.1’s), and Swift (twelve No.1’s).
Cowboy Carter was led by the singles “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” which were released during Super Bowl LVIII in February. Both tracks have received critical acclaim and contributed significantly to the album’s success.
