The contentious legal battle involving Cardi B and gossip blogger Tasha K has evolved into a compelling saga, introducing an unexpected twist.
In 2019, Cardi B took the legal route against Tasha K, accusing her of defamation, invasion of privacy, and infliction of emotional distress. The blogger, with a considerable following of a million subscribers, had alleged that Cardi B was involved in marital infidelity, drug misuse, and was also a carrier of herpes1.
As reported by Complex, Tasha K, instead of settling the hefty sum of $3,868,753.47 she owes Cardi B, has proposed a unique payment strategy. She has suggested clearing the debt by making 20 quarterly payments of $220,000 each2.
Interestingly, Cardi B received court permission to seize Tasha K’s assets, starting from April 2023, as a part of the payment recovery process.
Tasha K made an attempt to appeal the verdict but was unsuccessful as she couldn’t provide substantial evidence to prove the judgment wrong. The appeals court statement emphasized, “Defendant Latasha Kebe asks for a new trial, citing insufficient evidence for the jury verdict against her. However, she almost concedes that she didn’t make either of the required post-verdict motions in the district court.”
In a surprising turn of events, Tasha K, as part of her Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, filed a Plan of Reorganization. This plan gives a detailed outline of how she intends to repay her creditors, including Cardi B.
According to XXL, her bankruptcy filing also lists her assets ranging from $50,000 to $100,000, which include a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, electronics, home furniture, two Louis Vuitton purses, and clothes3.
Cardi B has yet to respond to Tasha K’s proposed payment plan. She, however, has the right to either accept or dismiss it.
In August, Cardi B urged the judge overseeing her case not to dismiss the debt from Tasha K, despite her bankruptcy filing. Tasha K’s Chapter 11 filing allows her company, Kebe Studios LLC, to reorganize debts while continuing its operations.
Due to the bankruptcy filing, Tasha K’s payments to Cardi B were temporarily halted, but they can be restarted if it can be demonstrated that the debt is tied to a deliberate or malicious injury.
