The music industry, no stranger to controversy, is once again caught in a whirlwind of legal allegations and lawsuits. The latest chapter involves DJ Envy, a renowned name in the industry, and his former business associate, Cesar Pina. “Pina is allegedly ‘willfully dodging and evading our efforts to serve them with process in this action,'” the lawsuit states.
A closer look at the court documents obtained by HipHopDX reveals the extent of the allegations made against Pina. The plaintiffs accuse Pina of avoiding receipt of the summons and complaint.
“The plaintiffs made several attempts to personally serve the Pinas with process in the manner prescribed by Fed. R. Civ. Pro. R. 4(e)(2), by personally delivering copies of the summons and complaint. The plaintiffs now seek the court’s permission to effectuate service of process by sending copies of the summons and complaint via regular and certified mail, with return receipts requested,” the documents explain.
In the midst of this legal storm, DJ Envy found himself under scrutiny. In October, two investors filed a $100 million lawsuit against him, claiming they invested in Pina’s company due to DJ Envy’s involvement.
DJ Envy was accused of soliciting “dozens of individuals to provide him with millions of dollars to purchase and invest in residential properties,” according to a press release from the Department of Justice. Envy, however, has not been charged in connection with the alleged scheme.
Earlier this month, due to his connections with Pina, DJ Envy was asked to provide documents to a bankruptcy trustee. This adds another layer to the complex situation Envy finds himself in.
