Jeannie Mai, an established television personality, recently made headlines when she addressed rumors about her supposed “gatekeeping” behavior over her daughter with the rapper Jeezy. She expressed her concerns for their child’s safety, which she claims is the real reason behind her custody of their daughter, Monaco.
After TMZ obtained court documents including Mai’s response to the allegations, she made it clear that her priority has always been the safety of her daughter. She has been accused of not allowing Jeezy consistent access to their child, an issue that she insists stems from her concerns about firearms being safely secured in his home.
“It is essential to clarify that Ms. Jenkins’ insistence on reasonable safety measures being put in place, such as safely securing and locking away all firearms that have been unsecured in the past, as well as having familiarity and properly trained caregivers is absolutely not gatekeeping, but rather a responsible effort to prioritize their daughter’s well-being,” Mai’s attorneys wrote in the court documents.
Earlier this month, Jeezy claimed that Mai was acting as a gatekeeper to their child, causing an unstable and chaotic parenting schedule that was stressful for their daughter. Jeezy, however, did not accuse Mai of acting out of malice.
Mai, on the other hand, insists that her actions are rooted in her concern for the well-being of their daughter, especially when she is under the care of others or traveling across the country.
Jeannie Mai and Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Jenkins, tied the knot in 2021 and welcomed their daughter a year later. However, their relationship took a turn when Jeezy filed for divorce in September. Despite the end of their marriage, Jeezy maintained his respect for Mai and cherished the time they spent together.
“The decision to end this chapter in my life was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart,” Jeezy said in a statement at the time. “Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart.”
