The recent rise of Detroit by Tee Grizzley and Skilla Baby has exerted great pressure on the music scene as a whole, putting the city on a pedestal like no other. In the music industry, it has been well-known for many years that the East Coast, West Coast, and The South hold a prominent position in the industry. There is no doubt that the city of Detroit has played a huge part in making the Midwest shine these days. There is no doubt that Motor City has been experiencing a musical high lately, from rappers like Tee Grizzley and Babyface Ray to Icewear Vezzo and others.
This city is in good hands as Tee Grizzley, one of the most prominent rappers in the city, is currently spearheading the sound of the city. As recently as a few weeks ago, the Detroit spitter partnered up with his fellow Detroit rapper Skilla Baby to release a mixtape called Controversy, a collection of some audio smack that the two have put together.
Despite the fact that the rapper of the song “First Day Out” rarely teams up with other artists for projects, the last time he did so was back in 2017, when he was working with Lil Durk (Bloodas). Nevertheless, it stands to reason that one of his second full-length collaborations is with a talent of the caliber of Skilla Baby. As one of Detroit’s rising rap stars, Controversy is positioned to help him carve out his own path, and it gives him a great opportunity to do so.
Skilla Baby recently spoke with Detroit Metro Times about his decision to link up with Tee Grizzley for the making of a mixtape, as well as the reasons why they came together. “There have been a couple of times when we have worked together,” he said. “Because we were so happy with how we worked together, we thought it would be a good idea to produce a project together.” There are 12 tracks included on the project that do not have any features, which gives the duo more freedom to trade bars without interruptions.
Grizzley and Skilla will be adding some heat to the crowd one more time, if the initial sounds of it are anything to go by. This could very well be the appetizer serving as a prelude to the main course to be served in due course if the appetizer is received in good time.
