Ty Dolla Sign announced in May the formation of his label, EZMNY Records, along with Leon Thomas’ signing as the label’s first official artist. As of today (Aug. 5), the two are collaborating on Thomas’ second record since signing with the new label, “Love Jones.” Thomas wrote the song and produced it along with Axl Folie and Ali Prawl. With the track, Thomas tries to capture the romance of a classic Californian love story:
Following “X-Rated,” Thomas released his second single “Love Jones” featuring Benny The Butcher in May. His explanation of the song’s deeper meaning was evident when discussing the new release. It is the double meaning of the phrase “Love Jones” which Thomas emphasized in a press release. In the first book, I explore the idea of dating a Hollywood girl who has it all together. Whenever you are inspired by someone on an emotional level, you fall in love with them. A second piece pays homage to Los Angeles. It was very important to me that I found a way to bring together my love for the city I have lived in for the last 13 years and my love for the women who find success in this city.”
