Donald Glover, renowned multi-talented artist, is set to revive his musical persona, Childish Gambino. The artist was sighted this week departing Greenwich Hotel, where he hinted at something exciting brewing in the world of music. Glover, who has been on a musical hiatus since 2020, has hinted at the return of his alter ego, Childish Gambino, with a brand-new studio album.
Glover, who is no stranger to the music industry, has been creating music as Childish Gambino since the early 2000s. His unique blend of rap and funk has won him several accolades and a dedicated fanbase. His last solo project was the 12-track album 3.15.20, released in 2020, which featured collaborations with artists like 21 Savage and Ariana Grande.
Interestingly, Glover had previously announced his decision to “retire” Childish Gambino. In a 2017 HuffPost interview, he expressed his desire to limit his music output to just three albums under the Gambino moniker. Glover likened the overuse of a persona to the excess of movie sequels, stating, “There’s nothing worse than like a third sequel, like a third movie and we’re like, ‘again?'”
Fast-forward to the present, and Glover seems to have had a change of heart. In a recent chat with Complex, he shed some light on his decision to resurrect Gambino. He confessed that he had been a bit vague about new music, but reassured his fans that they are set to receive clarity “sooner rather than later.”
Glover, in the same interview, was also candid about his love for music. He reflected on his motivations for creating music, stating, “You know, I don’t do this shit for money and shit. I do this because I’m nice. I don’t think I’d ever stop because I liked it. I never did it because it was like, man, this is a good way to get put on or something. I like the feeling of it. I do this because I’m nice.”
The return of Childish Gambino is a testament to Glover’s unwavering passion for music and his ability to connect with his listeners. The world awaits the return of Gambino with anticipation. With the promise of a new studio album, Glover proves that his musical journey is far from over.
