A great deal of attention has been paid to Gucci Mane forthcoming album, Breath of Fresh Air, which promises to be one of his most relatable pieces of work to date. A lyricist best known for the songs “I Get the Bag,” “Freaky Girl,” and “Serial Killers” revealed the details of the forthcoming album on Friday (June 16).
On the same day, he conducted a new interview with Apple’s “Zane Lowe.” In this interview, Gucci Mane discussed a different approach to this record that he had taken in the past. He was more intentional this time around in his lyrical content. Due to the tragic death of Young Dolph and Takeoff, as well as the arrest of his friends Foogiano and Pooh Shiesty, he decided to take a detour into the realm of rap.
“In terms of my mood right now, I’m just not in the mood to listen to a whole bunch of drilling and killing and stuff like that,” Gucci Mane stated on his radio show, “New Music Daily Radio.” Adding that the rapper had done this in the past, the rapper explained, “I am not saying that I have not done so before, but I am just showing people that there is more to rap about than my opps and all that.”
He went on to explain, “You can either rap about your girl or your wife going out to eat with you.” Interestingly, the East Atlanta artist has been married to his wife since 2017. As of February 2020, they were expecting a son, and in February, they welcomed a daughter. It is this theme that is the subject of all the songs. There isn’t one thing I’m saying about all of them, but that is the message I am trying to convey. It is not uncommon to see artists rap about the pain in their lives, but I have found that throughout the course of my career, I have tended to rap mostly about cars, jewelry, and just extravagance,” he explained.
Ultimately, Gucci noted that the new music is intended to show a more vulnerable side of himself. In his explanation, he said, “I wanted to let people know that I experience pain on a regular basis.”. Specifically, he did not wish to have a lot of superficial topics in his blog. It ain’t a bad thing; I hit people to make them aware of what was happening. Being happy is okay. “Do you understand what I am saying? ”
