Earlier this year, Ella Mai released her album, Heart On My Sleeve, to all her fans so they could enjoy it. Roddy Ricch, Latto, and Lucky Daye all played a part on the project, which featured 15 records and was completed with the collaboration of those artists. A London-bred singer who was born in 1961 returned to the stage in London today (Feb. 3) to launch her new album’s official deluxe edition to treat her fans. As part of the upgrade, there are three new songs included, including a standout number called “2 O’Clock.” In the song, she reveals how difficult it is for her to let go of the people she loves:
Ella Mai debut studio album, Heart On My Sleeve, was released back in January of 2018, and included collaborations with some of the most renowned artists of the time, including John Legend, Chris Brown, and H.E.R. in a total of 15 tracks. According to the Billboard 200, 69,000 album-equivalent units were sold as part of the first week of sales, putting the album within the top five of the chart. In the subsequent years, Ella Mai continued to become a success and even reached double platinum status later on in her career.
Recently, the “Shot Clock” singer spoke to a number of media outlets about the current state of the R&B scene over in this country. It is true that England is clearly behind the curve, but I do think we are making progress in that regard. In my opinion, there are enough outstanding artists in the R&B genre to satisfy them all, and people are now starting to realize that this is the case. This makes me feel delighted, because I believe it has been what everyone’s been waiting for for quite some time, but I don’t think anyone ever knew how to handle that situation in the best way possible,” she explained.
