Rihanna Returns To Make History With 118.7 Viewed Super Bowl Halftime Show

The Return of Breaking Records RiRi Has Arrived!

Despite the mixed reactions to Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime show, Mommihanna managed to rake in the highest number of viewers in Super Bowl history! The pop star made her highly-anticipated live return at this year’s NFL final, which took place at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona last Sunday February 12th. According to Fox Sports PR, the “Lift Me Up” songstress’ halftime show received more viewers than the actual Super Bowl. While Super Bowl LVII drew 113 million viewers, Rihanna’s halftime performance drew 118.7 million. In fact, Rihanna drew nearly 6 million more viewers than the game itself.

This year’s Super Bowl served as the most watched game in six years. After an almost 7-year hiatus, RiRi returns to shut down the Super Bowl stadium as her first live performance since. According to reports, Super Bowl LVII is now the most-watched Super Bowl game of all time.

Diamonds Shine Forever

Furthermore, the popular performance was made up of a 13-minute set that spanned her entire career. The “Diamonds” singer belted out a full setlist of some of her hottest hits, including “We Found Love”, “Where Have You Been”, “Diamonds”, and “Work”. An already breathtaking moment, she performed on a red stage and hovered above the field on a moving platform throughout the show. Additionally, the singer wore an Alaa bright red sleeping bag coat for the final two tracks (2007’s ‘Umbrella’ and 2012’s ‘Diamonds’).

The choice of closing clothing was an homage to Talley, whose favorite Norma Kamali coat was in the same style and color. This was a historic moment because the two fashion forward icons had previously met and shared similarities and bonded over their love of fashion in 2015. Talley interviewed Rihanna for Vogue on the red carpet at that year’s Met Gala in New York.

Queen of the night! Break it up, it’s not enough. Beautiful!” Talley told the star, praising the gown she was wearing. This moment, this fantasy, I’m dreaming. How did this happen? It’s so beautiful! You are so inspiring to so many people. You’re going to inspire people in this dress… I love you! Can’t wait to see you on stage!”

Rihanna and Her Raved Fashion Moment

Talley’s still-active Instagram account later approved the nod, sharing an image of the late fashion journalist and stylist wearing the item of topic. Following her show stopping Super Bowl show, Rihanna made headlines again after subtly announcing her second pregnancy with A$AP Rocky. Although she didn’t make an official announcement on stage, her baby bump was visible, and the streets were buzzing. Shortly shaking up the internet and becoming Twitter’s trending topic.

Shortly after, reps for the Bajan pop star officially confirmed the popular celebrity couple are expecting again. As a result, Rihanna and her husband Rocky are expecting their second child together just nine months after welcoming their first child in May 2022. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rihanna expressed reservations about performing at the Super Bowl halftime show so soon after giving birth. She did, however, use her 9-month-old son as motivation to return to the stage for the first time since 2018.
