There was a lot of excitement last month when Dave East released Book of David, an album of 17 songs hosted by DJ Drama. For most of the tracks on the album, the production duo Buda & Grandz was behind the boards, and there have also been visuals available for some of the tracks, including “Seen A Lot,” “No Promo,” and “Through the Fire.” With the arrival of a brand-new video for his latest Gangstarr, East Mix release, the emcee returned with another new video for his latest track. The Harlem native Dave East is seen riding around his city while rapping about his journey in the Dojai-directed clip as he rides from station to station on the subway.
The “Said What I Said” rapper debuted his most recent collection of work back in March, entitled HDIGH or (How Did I Get Here?). There were a number of artists that appeared on that project, including Anthony Hamilton, Musiq Soulchild, Benny the Butcher, Method Man, Steven Young, as well as plenty of others. He would return months later to present the album’s official deluxe upgrade. This would see the album expanded to 13 songs in total as well as added features from assorted artists such as Lyrivelli, Peedi Crakk, and more.
According to East, in a recent interview Dave East talked about why he believes it’s critical for us to share stories about our upbringing with the world. “Although it’s a fine line between telling your story and keeping it to yourself, I really feel like these are stories that must be told because I know other kids somewhere are suffering through the same thing and don’t understand why things are the way they are,” he explained. “It is still possible for you to get rich. There is still a chance for you to be a different person even though you live in a family. This is regardless of whether your family is causing you problems, or whatever.”
