“89 Earthquake” video by Larry June and The Alchemist

This joint effort between Larry June and The Alchemist has the masses excited for its upcoming release under the title The Great Escape, which was announced by June. Wednesday (Mar. 1) saw the duo return after releasing the well-received album “60 Days,” with another single called “89 Earthquake,” which likely refers to the earthquake that shook the Bay Area in 1989, known as the Loma Prieta earthquake. The booming track is a perfect match between Al’s key-driven production as well as June’s boastful lyrics about his personal life.

Announcing the release of Spaceships on the Blade, Larry June’s latest solo record to date, the album is his highest-charting to date, according to the charts. There were more than twenty songs on the project and there were appearances from such artists as DUCKWRTH, Curren$y, Wallo267, Babyface Ray, 2 Chainz, and Syd. A few months later, Larry June teamed up with Jay Worthy and his LNDN DRGS outfit for 2 P’z In A Pod, released the same year and a record that was equally dope both in production and in lyrics, as well as additional contributions from Roc Marciano, CeeLo Green, Suga Free, and Jim Jones.

As Larry June mentioned in a recent interview, being an independent artist has many benefits that can be enjoyed by a person.

“I promise you that you are always going to get 100 percent of what you put out,” he said. “ You are more likely to receive 100% of what you desire if you have a loyal fan base. I am only concerned with numbers, and that is all I am concerned with. My ability to understand numbers is based on the fact that they add up. That is all there is to it. My contract with a major will probably never be renewed.”
