New video for “El Rey” from D Smoke.

It’s been more than a week since D Smoke released his new single “El Rey,” an effort produced by Dem Jointz that is filled with stream-of-consciousness bars that address racial pride, loyalty to one’s significant other, and more:

“Rey” is accompanied by a corresponding video that pays tribute to Mexican Independence Day through social media tributes from Snoop Dogg, Issa Rae, T.I., G Perico, Rapsody, and Tyrese. Following this, the Sergio-directed clip shows D Smoke riding in a droptop accompanied by his crew, lying on a rooftop, and riding on the back of a scrap truck. The following are the words of a Mexican man during an intermission describing what Mexican Independence Day means to him and his community:

The release of D Smoke’s third studio album War & Wonders, a 16-track effort with additional contributions by Marsha Ambrosius, Tobe Nwigwe, Westside Boogie, BJ The Chicago Kid, Fireboy DML, John Legend, Ty Dolla $ign, and SiR. In 2020, King Black released his critically acclaimed first full-length, Black Habits, following his win on the Netflix competition “Rhythm + Flow.”
