275 years ago today (July 4) the Declaration of Independence was signed by the Founding Fathers of the United States. Killer Mike is therefore well suited to release his powerful new single, “RUN,” alongside Dave Chappelle and Young Thug on this special day. On the track, No I.D. produces the Atlanta emcee who raps about his well-deserved success after years of grinding and paying attention to his goals:
A matching visual, directed by Adrian Villagomez, accompanies “RUN”. During the roughly five-minute clip, a Black man runs through a field during a war, evoking Chappelle’s reference to the Normandy Invasion of World War II. Killer Mike does not stop there, as he also makes sure to show his support to both Bun B, who pops up in the video, as well as Thugger and his YSL partner Gunna, who are currently in court fighting a serious legal battle.
Killer Mike’s fifth album in the Run The Jewels series follows the critically acclaimed fourth installment. This album featured collaborations with 2 Chainz, DJ Premiere,Pharrell Williams, Greg Nice, and more. The last album Mike released as a solo artist was R.A.P. Music, released in 2012.
