Renowned for his ceaseless endeavors, Skepta is poised to make 2024 his most bustling year yet. His recently unveiled masterpiece, “Jangrova,” featuring Idris Elba and Odumodublvck, takes us on a trip down memory lane to the golden era of grime. But it’s not just a song; it’s a peephole into a grander scheme.
In Skepta’s words, the film-making journey has been a long-held aspiration. Now, the stars have finally aligned, and “Tribal Mark” is a project he holds close to his heart. He hopes the film will resonate with immigrants, as it recounts a journey many of them have undertaken. The film is a tribute to them.
“I’ve always wanted to get into making films, and now feels like the perfect time. We’ve been working on this project for a while, and it’s one that’s extremely important to me. It’s a story that many immigrants will understand and connect with, as it reflects a journey many have gone through—and this project is for them.”
Skepta’s vision for “Tribal Mark” extends beyond a single film. His ambitious plan includes TV shows and more movies, all interwoven into the “Tribal Mark” universe. He hopes that the young audience will embrace “Tribal Mark” as their new superhero.
In addition to being a cinematic masterpiece, “Tribal Mark” will also feature “Gas Me Up (Diligent)”, the first single from Skepta’s forthcoming album, “Knife And Fork”. Although the album’s release date remains under wraps, “Gas Me Up (Diligent)” is expected to hit the music stands on Friday, January 26.
Skepta has more than just music and films up his sleeve for 2024. He has announced the inaugural Big Smoke Festival, scheduled to take place at Crystal Palace Park on July 6. The festival will have two stages catering to different musical tastes – one for the grime and rap enthusiasts, and the other for house music lovers.
