A Georgia grand jury has indicted a now-retired Atlanta police officer for the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Jimmy Atchison during a federal raid of a Northwest Atlanta apartment that happened in 2019. The indictment, which was unsealed on Wednesday, charges ex-officer Sung Kim with one count of murder and one count of making a false statement.

The indictment, returned Wednesday, charges former Officer Ivory Streeter with one count of murder and two counts of violating Jimmy Atchison’s civil rights. The indictment alleges that Streeter, who was part of a SWAT team that executed the raid, shot Atchison while he was lying on the ground, unarmed and posing no threat. The shooting happened after Jimmy Atchison had been ordered to come out of his apartment with his hands up.

The grand jury found that there was probable cause to believe that Streeter “unlawfully and unreasonably” used deadly force against Jimmy Atchison, “resulting in his death.” If convicted, Streeter could face life in prison or the death penalty. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
