As Khalid works steadily toward the completion of EVERYTHING IS CHANGING, he expects to release the album later this year. Keeping fans on edge for what’s on the way, Khalid released his latest single today (March 31), “Softest Touch.” In the song, Khalid touches on his sensitive side, singing about one’s infatuation with someone:
A recent interview with Eddie Francis on Apple Music 1 provided an insight into the meaning behind the new song for the Georgia-born musician. “This was exactly what I needed,” he stated. “The past couple of years have been interesting. There has been a lot of confusion, sadness, and sickness lately, and so I wanted to provide my fans with something that was undeniably happy. There is a positive vibe and a positive energy in the air. I am just striving to make a difference in the world and giving people something positive to hold onto.”
As for Khalid’s most recent work, Scenic Drive (The Tape) was released in 2021. The tape included nine songs with contributions from Smino, 6LACK, Lucky Daye, Alicia Keys, Quin, Kiana Ledé, Majid Jordan, JID, and Ari Lennox. Before the release of Free Spirit, he released his well-received sophomore album, which also featured collaborations with John Mayer and Safe. As a result of the sales of 202,000 equivalent album units in its first week, Free Spirit became the top-selling album on the Billboard 200. It has also been certified platinum since its release.
